Night Ride Wednesday 10.3.10....Greenhaugh / Sidwood. 6 Months ago Karma: 6
Sorry for the late notice...we've decided to keep it fairly local again this week as Ant, Paul & Lee are definite non-starters for various reasons...so the most "chilled" route in the night-ride stable once again, meeting in Greenhaugh for a 6.30 start.
An ideal ride for anyone who wants to come out with us for the first time (or maybe wants to get back into it after doing nowt for a while...Oliver?)...its a stroll not a sprint this one but quite varied ...one of Ians favourites, mine too for that matter...all you've gotta do is turn up!
I might even buy you a pint in the Hollybush afterwards....( I did say might)!

As per usual, I give it a go if I can out from work in time - it's time to start the night rides again, been missing them.

How are ground conditions around there? Harwood is still covered in slushy, heavy snow, in the shady bits, and almost impossible to ride on.....

Good News....It will be good to see you back out there again...mind you ..you were bought fairly cheaply...I would have held out for a couple of pints at least PLUS a taxi home!

Dammit. I guess I'm going to have to pay for my own bag of dry roasted, too.

Hey Neil, I'll have the Mobi pressure washer with me. I'll wash your bike for another pint. No point asking Ian, he gets his servants to wash his bike. And he's a firm believer in 'dry washing'.

Hi,

Is there room for a newbie to the night scene, I met some of you on the end of the Noughties ride - take 2. Where are you meeting ?

Hey Dave,

There's always room for a newb. I believe the meeting place is almost in the middle of Greenhaugh, probably at the parking spaces, opposite and along a bit from the pub. But you could park anywhere in Greenhaugh and you'd not be far away.

Good to see this ride has generated some interest - things have been a bit flat lately.
I note that Oliver's cheek has kicked off already - now that brings back memories! Anyway I will be washing my bike on Thursday morning with a hosepipe and brush actually. Pretty old fashioned I know, but it works for me.
Neil,
If it keeps him happy, I'll cover the bag of dry roasted!! Actually no... I've just realised they don't sell them - have to be crisps, or bring your own.... should we?
Dave,
Hope you can make it, would be good to see you again. Bear in mind the pace will be steady tonight.

Ant, well it's a half decent excuse, I suppose... Shame you missed it.

Fitness-wise, I did ok. Quite pleased actually. Just the legs struggled on the hills, but breathing was fine, so didn't end up a hideous jibbering mess.

I too was having slight bladder problems, of the Camelbak variety, as I had a leaky valve (still talking Camelbaks). A constant dripping caused icicles on the frame, and the front mech to be a bit stubborn when going for the granny.

But all in all, a good time was had by all. Dave, good to meet you, and hope you get back out with us again soon, and Hodgy, cheers again for keeping me company up back. And thanks to Ian for the usual banter!

Here's a shot from the night...

Really enjoyed last night..it was great to see you out on a bike again Oliver and by the end of the night Dave had slotted into the "group" so well that you would think that he had always been part of it.
Pity you could'nt make it Ant...I've been having problems with my bladder for years..but thats another story. Having said that you were spared the sight of Mr.Bell gyrating in front of his lights and projecting an image onto the distant forest trees...good job it was half way through the ride as it could have put me off my beer...short term dementia meant that I had forgotten all about it by the time we hit the pub!

Yes, it was nice for Neil and I to have some new faces to chat to and great to have Oliver back out again! Pretty impressed how well that pic has come out - good old iphone eh! As Dave's computer showed, we finished the ride at -4C, so no wonder pedals, mechs etc were a bit dodgy.
Too many "weak" bladder stories going about mind you. We are planning to go from The Riverdale next week Ant, so could you make that? If you can't fix your bladder, just bring a bottle a la Neil.
