End of the Noughties Ride - Take 2 - Feb 7th 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
Something on the social rides column at last!!

I'm reckoning (and hoping) that in 3 weeks time every last sodding flake will have gone, and nothing serious arrived in its place. In fact everyone should have had chance to get their bikes out and learnt how to ride again within this time.

Therefore, I am proposing that we do the round the Lake trip on this Sunday morning, and retire to The Hollybush after for some (more) craic. Food and beer optional!!

Meet at the Dam car park at 09.00am for a 09.30 start.

All those in favour say aye on here.

Aye...( in theory anyway )...cant help thinking though that winter has barely started and what we've had is just a taster for whats to come
Saw Ant in Bellingham CO-OP twice over the weekend...he did't recognise me the first time!!

Aye, I'll be there

For all you sceptics out there, I had a lovely ride yesterday. 60 miles, beautiful sunny day, amazing views of the Northumberland countryside, tea and cake half way round, all on a road bike

I'd love to, but I'm away that weekend, so can't make it.

Steve, I'm with you on the road bike thing, it can be great - but not too much......

Where was tea cake stop?

Why wait - cabin fever and wrecking my car eventually got the better of me. Went up to Kielder on 18 Jan. Left from car park at dam with walkers convincing me trail was fine. Started off - on every bit of shadow snow and ice -more walkers suggested I should walk! Left lakeside at first pile of surfacing on right (looks like an incredible jump feature)up on to forest road - no ice/snow and cycled up to turn off to quarry. Took first left then the landrover tracks stopped at 1ft snow but what a fantasic view! Retraced route and got on to lakeside soon after (some sort of jetty/point). Incredible cycling through the snow -unbelievable silence and atmosphere - walking bits didn't matter -ride to remember. Point of all this is no matter what the conditions are for the re-scheduled naughties ride ( which I cannot attend as working in Peak District - Mam Tor classic fits into this!) get out and do a bit of it!

It's this Sunday everyone. Only myself, Neil and Steve have put on here they are going, but I'm sure Lee, Ant, Roger and Paul will be joining us. Is this correct?
The Hollybush will have home made broth on for those that want - I didn't ask how much, but £3-4 I presume. At the last count only Neil didn't want any, so I presume that is right.
Anyone else? This ride is open to all forum users and mates/partners, so don't be shy. Robert, Chris, Verity how about it?

Bring one for me too then Chris!!
Its at least 2 months since I've slung a leg which in my case equals a total lack of fitness...I think the Hollybush stays open all day !

Well over a month late, but we got our traditional New Year ride in eventually!! Almost a full turn out of the regular suspects, and really nice to have Jules, Chris and Dave along also.
It might be a Lakeside way, but there is a fair bit of climbing involved, and being 27 miles even if you are fit (and a few of us weren't very!) you can feel it in the legs(and elsewhere).
Made it all worth while once sat in The Hollybush, with a pint in one hand and a most delicious homemade burger in the other!
Roll on next year.

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for making us feel so very welcome.

Great ride, great craic and great characters, just a shame that we couldn't make it to the pub, where you boys could perhaps have shown me how to drink.

Thanks again

Jules

Nice to have survived the ride...I would be one of the bods that fell into the not very fit category. Having done absolutely nothing for over 2 months I was'nt expecting too much ...so was'nt disappointed!! However what yesterday did highlight was how quickly you can lose what little fitness you have..and the need to keep at it...so my damaged forks are being sent for repair this week so that I can get back out there. On that note could I also thank Ian for the bike loan.
What also stood out yesterday with regard to the trail itself was how different it rides during the winter as opposed to the summer...very soft and energy sapping..give me a muddy moorland track any day of the week!
It was good to see everyone again including the new faces...hope you can make another ride again soon....hope to see Dave on a night ride in a couple of weeks time.
Rumour has it that Steve was having such a good time he did a third lap!
Did you get back alright 'ol baldy legs?
