We work very closely with the Forestry Commission, but are completely separate organisations. The MTB champion within the FC has been working really hard and has put together various funding opportunities that have been supported by their own organisation, Northumberland Strategic Partnership (funded by One North East), the EC, etc. These funds (>£1m) have paid for the Contractors to build the majority of the trails on the ground.
KTR's day to day funding comes from Membership fees (£10 per year – please join!) and MTB Race events - the Marathon Series, that we run jointly with The Bike Place. Half of the profits from each race keep us afloat and the other half funds The Great North Air Ambulance.
As we are a registered charity, we have also managed to attract (relatively small) donations from various organisations and companies.
At times we have been funded for working with organisations who are there to promote Kielder, (e.g. participating in Photo shoots).
KTR also have been successful in gaining funding from National bodies, specifically we have received:
- £40k from Defra for building the Up and Over Black Trail
- £10k from the Lottery for Tools and Equipment
We are currently considering further bids to organisations that fund Charities and will also be working hard to:
- Attract more paid members
- Promote our race events
